BC Film Crowd Roars Approval For "The Leos"

Sneak Peek's Michael Stevens reporting from Vancouver's Coal Harbour district...

The ninth annual Leo Awards celebrated the best in British Columbia film with a 2-night party of fashion, auctions, wine receptions, sit down dinners and a big band awards show, June 1 and 2 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel, in the Coal Harbour district of Vancouver...and Sneak Peek was there!

At the heart of the "Leo Awards" is the strength of the British Columbia film and television industry, sustaining over 15,000 jobs and generating over $1 billion in economic activity during 2006.

To the backdrop of Michele Thistle's "Launch Rx" fashion show, featuring gorgeous models and silent auction, the first night kicked off with a reception at 5:30 PM, followed by a bountiful meal of veal tortellini, penne arrabbiata with pesto/cream, sachetti with ricotta and spinach parmesan cheese, garlic and focaccia bread. Salads included bayshore greens, Thai spiced baby shrimp, rice noodle, grilled vegetable with basil and three cheese tortellini. The entree was a steamship round of Alberta beef served with dollar size rolls, horseradish, mayonnaise and dijon mustard. Wines included Cordoniu Cuvee Raventos.

The Awards Show started at 8:00, followed by coffee, teas and chocolate pastries.

The second night offered a red carpet arrival/reception attended by the biggest names working in the West Coast film industry, including reps from "Smallville", "Eureka" and "The L Word".

The event was followed by an elegant, seated dinner of insalata patassini, arrugula, lollarosa, chopped radicchio, fresh basil, and fontina cheese. The entree was baked sablefish filet with tomato caper jam and pernod cream/sweet potato dauphine accompanied by seasonal vegetables.

Excellent red/white wines included Cordoniu Cuvee Raventos, Peller Estates Chardonnay Heritage Series and Peller Estates Merlot Heritage Series. Desserts included chocolate truffle mousse cakes.
