"Wolverine" Claws His Way To The Top...

The latest Fox comic book feature "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", based on the Marvel superhero character, opened with a spectacular $160 million worldwide debut in 101 movie markets.

Starring actor Hugh Jackman, who recently hosted the Academy Awards Oscar broadcast to increase his public profile, the newest 'X-Men' movie took in $87 million in the United States and Canada.

The four movies in the "X-Men" series have combined for more than $1.1 billion in ticket sales around the world.

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" focuses on the violent/romantic past of 'Logan', his complex relationship with 'Victor Creed' and the ominous 'Weapon X' program.

Along the way, 'Wolverine' encounters mutants, familiar and new, including appearances by legends of the X-Men universe.

Directed by Gavin Hood, the feature stars actors Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Danny Huston, Dominic Monaghan, Daniel Henney and Lynn Collins...
