DC's 'Deadshot' Targets CW's "Arrow"

The DC Comics character 'Deadshot' (played by Michael Rowe) will appear in the CW's Vancouver-lensed "Arrow" TV series, in the third episode titled "Lone Gunman".

"Arrow", adapting the adventures of the DC Comics' character 'Green Arrow' premieres Wednesday October 10, 2012.

"In the same way that the pilot is a more grounded and realistic take on the material," said producer Marc Guggenheim, "our 'Deadshot' is a more grounded and realistic take on the character than the fully costumed and masked super-villain that you see in the comics. But you’ll definitely see the red eye piece, which is the most distinctive, iconic feature of that character..."

The original 'Deadshot' 'super-villain' character, aka 'Floyd Lawton', was created by Bob Kane, David Vern Reed and Lew Schwartz, debuting in DC Comics "Batman' #59 (June/July 1950), as a dapper killer-for-hire, heralding himself in 'Gotham City' as a new crimefighter.

But Lawton is sent to jail after 'Batman' and 'Commissioner Gordon' publicly expose his plot to become the king of Gotham's underworld. 

Following his release from prison, Lawton changes his costume from top coat and tails to a red jumpsuit and metal face plate with a red-eye targeting device.

He then joins black ops groups 'Suicide Squad' followed by the 'Secret Six'.

"Arrow" stars Stephen Amell, Colin Donnell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Willa Holland, Susanna Thompson and Paul Blackthorne, with the pilot directed by David Nutter ("Band Of Brothers") from a story by Greg Berlanti and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim.

"Arrow" joins other TV pilots based on DC Comics superheroes "Booster Gold", "Deadman" and "Spectre". Created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp, "Green Arrow' first appeared in "More Fun Comics" #73 (November 1941), as 'Oliver Queen', a billionaire and former mayor of 'Star City'.

Dressed like 'Robin Hood', Green Arrow is an archer who invents trick arrows with various special functions, including glue, net, explosive, time bomb, grappling, fire extinguishing, flash and tear gas arrows.

Originally developed as an archery-themed 'Batman' vigilante, the character has developed over the years into a voice of 'left-wing' and 'progressive' politics.

The 'Green Arrow' character also appeared in the live-action, Vancouver-lensed "Smallville" TV series.
