“Canada Day”



'Canada', from the Huron-Iroquois word 'kanata', meaning 'settlement', this year honors 154 years recognizing the anniversary of the July 1, 1867 enactment of the 'British North America Act':



The BNA act was made into law by British Parliament March 29, 1867 coming into effect July 1, 1867.

The Act provided for the confederation of three of the five British North American colonies into a federal state with a parliamentary system similar to Britain, in a single country called 'Canada' within the 'British Empire'


Originally called 'Dominion Day' the holiday was renamed in 1982...


...resulting in the patriation of the 'Constitution of Canada'.
