Knightley's "Atonement" Opening 2007 VIFF

September 27, the 26th edition of the Vancouver International Film Festival will screen the historical romance "Atonement", starring Keira Knightley and James MacAvoy.

Directed by Joe "Pride & Prejudice" Wright, from author Ian McEwan's novel, premise of the story focuses on a false accusation at a country estate that pulls apart 2 lovers during World War II.

VIFF 2007 will close October 12 with "Priceless", a comedy set on France's Cote d'Azure, following a gold-digger who goes after a bar-tender.

This years VIFF will screen more than 300 films, with an emphasis on documentaries, Asian films and North American independent productions.

Director Kari Skogland's adaptation of Canadian author Margaret Laurence's "The Stone Angel" will open the Canadian Images progem September 28.
