Thank You From The First Weekend Club...

Sneak Peek's Michael Stevens @ BC Motion Picture Industry Week...

"Thank you so much for attending First Weekend Club's gala honouring BC Filmmakers on Thursday night at Heritage Hall. And if you missed it, we're sorry you couldn't be there but we hope to see you next year!

It was a great night with some wonderful entertainment by 17-year-old rising jazz sensation, Ali Milner and a surprise appearance by Gerard the Hypnotist, who had the room buzzing with excitement and wonder as he predicted the choices of four random guests as they each chose the genre (children's), star (Danny DeVito), running time (89 minutes) and filming location (New Zealand) of a movie. There was also a special announcement from MPPIA announcing the short-listed candidates for the 2007 MPPIA Short Film Award at the 2007 Whistler Film Festival, which include Ryan Galletta’s LUCKY SHORTS, Katie Yu’s THE EVOLUTION OF EMERIC, Cal Garingan’s THE LAKE STORY and Marshall Axani’s THE LIGHT OF THE FAMILY BURNAM. And of course, the stars of the evening were all the filmmakers and talent that came out to celebrate and mingle...or perhaps merely enjoy the open bar. We don't really know for sure.

As part of MPIAA's Motion Picture Industry Week in BC, we were also collecting non-perishable food & cash donations at the event for this year's beneficiary, the BC Food Bank. So, thank you for the outpour of support.

After all the drinks were shaken and stirred (and consumed) and the party dimmed its lights, we had some sushi remaining, which we took to a shelter on the Downtown East Side, just in time for dinner. So overbooking catering did not end up being such a bad thing after all. ;-)

We hope you had a great time and continue your interest in Canadian film by tuning in to www.firstweekendclub.ca and if you haven't already, by signing up to be a member (for free, might we add). Now, if you get a friend or two (or 10) to sign up also, you get brownie points and good film karma. And, well, your friends will thank you.

If you enjoyed this event, our next one is the Dec 2nd screening of "The Red Violin", as part of our Canada Screens film & talkback series at VanCity Theatre...

We hope to see you soon!

Best,

Anita Adams - Executive Director, First Weekend Club
Katherine Brodsky - Event Producer"
