"Stargate Universe" is the Vancouver-lensed 'military science fiction' TV series, debuting October 2, 2009 as a two-hour movie, followed by regular weekly airings on Syfy in the US and Space in Canada, executive produced and written by Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper and Carl Binder.
Premise follows the adventures of a present-day, multinational exploration team on board the spaceship 'Destiny', transported to a distant corner of the universe and unable to return to Earth, with members of the team forced to remain on the vessel and fend for themselves.
Cast includes Robert "Trainspotting" Carlyle as 'Dr. Nicholas Rush', Toronto actor Justin Louis as 'Colonel Everett Young', David Blue as 'Eli Wallace', Brian J. Smith as 'Lieutenant Matthew Scott', Jamil Walker Smith as 'Master Sergeant Ronald Greer', Alaina Huffman as 'Lieutenant Tamara Johansen', Elyse Levesque as 'Chloe Armstrong' and Ming-Na as 'Camille Wray'.
Producers Wright and Cooper conceived "Stargate Universe" as a separate, third entity in the live-action Stargate franchise, as opposed to "Stargate Atlantis", created as a spin-off from "Stargate SG-1".
