The "Arrow" character 'Dinah "Laurel" Lance' (Katie Cassidy) will play 'Black Canary'.
The character debuted in DC's "Flash Comics" #86 (August 1947). but it wasn't until the late 1960's, when she was paired romantically and professionally with 'Green Arrow".
Stories published during that time depicted Black Canary as a world-class martial artist with a high-pitched 'Canary Cry', that could shatter objects and incapacitate enemies.
A recent live-action version of 'Black Canary' appeared on The CW's "Smallville" TV series.
